چکیده

Ultrasound Contrast Agents (UCAs) composed ofgaseous microbubbles exhibit acoustic properties that differ fromthose surrounding tissue. In order to increase the contrast totissue ratio, it is necessary to propose methods that characterizeoptimally the ultrasonic properties of UCAs. The aim of thisstudy is to measure the viscoelastic properties of UCAs using adynamic acousto-elastic method. The approach, based on theinteraction of two waves, provides non-contact and localizedmeasurements of viscoelastic and dissipative nonlinearities ofUCAs. Sonovue and BR14 UCAs (BraccoResearch, GE) were socharacterized at two different probing frequencies (1 MHZ, 2MHz) and two dilutions (1/100 and 1/1000). As expected veryhigh viscoelastic and dissipative nonlinearities were obtained.Hysteresis and asymmetries in compression and expansion areobserved for both viscoelastic and dissipative parameters. Sametrends were found for BR14 and SonoVue. The probing pulsefrequencies and the dilutions are providing different results forviscoelastic nonlinearities, whereas only dilution may have animpact on dissipative nonlinearities.

Impact Analysis of Variation in Geometrical Features on Intrinsic Characteristics of Capacitive Micro-machined Ultrasonic Transducers

Capacitive Micro-machined Ultrasonic Transducers (CMUTs) are the ultrasonic devices which produce better features in contrast to piezoelectric transducers. The intrinsic parameter of CMUT varies with the variation in geometrical dimension of the device. The cavity height and the radius of the CMUT with circular membrane is varied in the lumped parallel plate model for its impact on the paramete...

Optimisation des paramètres fréquentiels du signal d'émission appliquée à l'imagerie de contraste ultrasonore du second harmonique

Many ultrasound contrast imaging techniques use the nonlinear behavior of contrast agents to enhance the contrast of medical images. They are based on the generation of harmonic frequencies when microbubbles are insonified by ultrasound waves. The frequential parameters of the transmitted ultrasound signal maximize the harmonic power of microbubbles. We propose an adaptive method which seeks au...

IMAGERIE ACOUSTIQUE ET OPTIQUE DES MILIEUX BIOLOGIQUES OPTICAL AND ACOUSTICAL IMAGING OF BIOLOGICAL MEDIA Tissue harmonic ultrasonic imaging

Harmonic imaging was originally developed for microbubble contrast agents in the early 90s under the assumption that tissue is linear and all harmonic echoes are generated by the bubbles. In fact, tissue, like bubbles, is a nonlinear medium. Whereas the harmonic echoes from bubbles have their origins in nonlinear scattering, those from tissue are a result of nonlinear propagation. The clinical ...

Two Capacitive Micro-Machined Ultrasonic Transducers for Wind Speed Measurement

This paper presents a new wind speed measurement method using a single capacitive micro-machined ultrasonic transducer (CMUT). The CMUT was arranged perpendicular to the direction of the wind flow, and a reflector was set up a short distance away, facing the CMUT. To reduce the size, weight, cost, and power consumption of conventional ultrasonic anemometers this study proposes two CMUT designs ...

Underwater Imaging Using a 1 × 16 CMUT Linear Array

A 1 × 16 capacitive micro-machined ultrasonic transducer linear array was designed, fabricated, and tested for underwater imaging in the low frequency range. The linear array was fabricated using Si-SOI bonding techniques. Underwater transmission performance was tested in a water tank, and the array has a resonant frequency of 700 kHz, with pressure amplitude 182 dB (μPa·m/V) at 1 m. The -3 dB ...
